Dr Strohm has methodically divided his book into the following seven chapters (plus an introduction and a general summary): "Materials and Methods," "Tympanic Membrane Lesions," "Lesions of the Ossicular Chain," "Fractures of the Temporal Bone and Their Complications," "Stenosis of the External Canal," "Post-Traumatic Cholesteatoma and Tubal Dysfunction," and "Traumatic Lesions of the Round Window Membrane and Perilymphatic Fistulae." The author has analyzed the clinical records of 691 patients seen between 1968 and 1980, 463 of whom underwent surgery. Roentgenograms and the histopathologic features of 89 temporal bones were reviewed. This material represents 2.3% of all otosurgical cases involving surgery in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at the University of Tübingen (West Germany). The author cites 502 references from the literature.
