PATHOLOGIC QUIZ CASE 1

A 35-year-old man presented to Tulane University Medical Center, New Orleans, with a complaint of a fleshy growth over the medial aspects of both upper eyelids. The patient stated that the growth had enlarged in the last two to three months and was painless. There were no other ocular complaints such as dryness, scaling, or itching. Examination of ocular adnexa showed nothing abnormal. He demonstrated a supralateral visual field defect bilaterally. The only significant laboratory finding on admission was a serum cholesterol level of 260 mg/dL (6.72 mmol/L) (normal value for our laboratory, 140 to 300 mg/dL [3.62 to 7.76 mmol/L]).
