This is an updated and expanded version of a textbook designed to give audiologists, speech therapists, and students of medicine and related disciplines a working knowledge of the problems of hearing impairment in the child. The text accomplishes this goal with a broad approach to the diagnosis and management of these problems.

In contrast to the second edition, the table of contents is essentially unchanged, though most chapters have been expanded, especially chapters 1, 3, and 7. This accounts for an increase in the number of pages by about one fifth compared with the second edition. The number of references has not been increased, but they have been updated. Chapter 1 now has information on what constitutes handicap in the hearing impaired and on identification and management of the otitis-prone child.
