An exciting collection of articles were presented at the Eastern section meeting of the Triological Society in Philadelphia, Jan 31 and Feb 1, 1986. A summary of some of the most informative presentations follows.

Dr Hugh Biller, Mount Sinai Hospital Medical Center, New York, demonstrated the successful preoperative localization of parathyroid adenomas utilizing a technetiumthallium subtraction scan. He was successful in localizing 12 of 13 parathyroid adenomas, and these findings were surgically confirmed.

This is an important article supporting the initial optimism for this radionuclide imaging modality as first reported from Italy. Subsequent reports from Great Britain did not support the preliminary success of this imaging modality in parathyroid adenoma localization. However, the Mount Sinai experience in recording the low-energy thallium images first may well account for their successful result. As the preoperative localization of parathyroid adenoma has always been an enigma, this contribution is highly important.
