The 1985 annual scientific meeting of the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy was held Oct 18-19 at the Atlanta Hilton. Roger Boles, MD, president of the American Academy of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery, applauded the growth and development of the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy and encouraged further efforts in graduate education, certification, and research. He also recommended continued dialogue with general allergists and other national and regional medical organizations. Guest of Honor Jerome C. Goldstein, MD, executive vice-president of the American Academy of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery, discussed the evolution of medical economics from physician domination through a power shift to the present problematic period. He noted that the government, the business community, insurance companies, and organized consumer groups are attempting to restructure the health-care system, and pointed out that cooperation among otolaryngology subspecialties can foster and further growth.
