PATHOLOGIC QUIZ CASE 1

A 30-year-old healthy woman presented with a three-month history of worsening nasal congestion. She had not responded to orally administered decongestants. On examination, a mass filled the entire nasal cavity from anterior nare to posterior choana on the right side. Computed tomographic scan confirmed a mass that filled the right nasal cavity. Arteriogram showed the nasal lesion to be vascular and supplied mainly by the right external carotid system with contributing branches of the right internal carotid artery. Complete removal was accomplished through a combination of the Caldwell-Luc procedure and a lateral rhinotomy approach. Two years after surgery, the patient remained healthy without evidence of recurrent tumor. The resected specimen is seen in Fig 1. The microscopic appearance is seen in Figs 2 and 3.
