Oral Histology: Inheritance and Development is a gem of a book containing a wealth of information about the normal development and microanatomy of the oral and paraoral tissues. It consists of 485 pages organized into 15 chapters. Chapter 1 is devoted to the normal cell (cytology) and basic genetics. Chapter 2 describes the various tissues (histology) of the body, while chapter 3 discusses embryology in general and then focuses on the development of the oral cavity and related structures. Chapter 4 presents a detailed review of odontogenesis. Chapters 5 through 10 are devoted to the tissues that comprise the teeth (enamel, dentin, dental pulp, and cementum) and to the supporting tooth structures (alveolar process and periodontal ligament). Chapters 11 through 15 deal respectively with the oral mucosa, salivary glands, tongue and tonsils, nasal passage and paranasal sinuses, and the temporomandibular joint.
