The purpose of this book is not clear. The publisher's notes suggest that it is designed for students and medical house officers starting a clinical rotation through otolaryngology. The authors' introduction intimates that clinicians and practitioners are the intended audience. I am not sure how either group would be able to profit from this work.
The book is organized into 16 segments, each with several pages of text followed by boxy diagrammatic flow charts. Although the authors stress the usefulness of the work in differential diagnosis, most of the text material centers on anatomy, physiology, and clinical pathology—all at a recall level. There is not a single picture or illustration in the entire work. The diagnostic information provided is descriptive in nature; discussions regarding interpretation of findings are nowhere to be found.
