The editor's preface describes the content of this book: "The test has been written specifically for the nontechnical background of most speechlanguage pathologists and audiologists... by experts who are actively involved in speech, language, and hearing applications with personal computers... chapters have been included that will interest clinicians and researchers, the private practitioner, the... instructor and... student."

This 259-page book is nicely laid out and carefully organized. The first three chapters discuss the components, operation, and general applications of the personal computer. The next two chapters describe its uses in record management and academic applications. The remaining chapters present issues specific to speech, language, and hearing patient-care activities and research.

Though the individual chapters largely cover existing ground, they provide new and useful perspectives on the interaction between the singleuser microcomputer and the communication professional.
