In the event that you missed it, the ARCHIVES has a new name—the AMA Archives of Otolaryngology—Head & Neck Surgery.
Changing the name of a major scientific journal is a complex process, and one that is not undertaken without considerable thought, study, and debate. As a matter of fact, discussion of this topic has been an annual event for several years—something of a rite of Spring at our Editorial Board Meeting each year.
The rationale for changing our name at this point is simple. Our specialty has undergone a dramatic metamorphosis over the past three decades, and it is apparent that we have changed into something different in form and content.
Training programs have expanded dramatically and the required duration of residency has been increased from three to five years. The scope of our surgical practice is much broader and the quality of our clinical and basic science research
