This atlas is divided into three sections: (1) the speech mechanism, (2) the auditory system, and (3) the nervous system.

Under the speech mechanism, chapter 1 reviews the skeleton and skull. I have a difficult time with this chapter, as with most of the text, since it consists of a collection of well-known anatomic figures that are not closely related to the main topic of the section.

The second chapter, "The Thorax and Abdomen," is similarly a collection of anatomical dissections. Although I realize this was meant to be an atlas of speech and hearing anatomy, I feel strongly that there should have been a "broad brush" discussion of function in relation to anatomy.

The next chapter, entitled "The Neck," is similarly repetitive.

The chapter entitled "The Larynx" is anatomically more interesting, since the dissections have been done with great care by one of the authors, (J.C.K.). It is evident . . . [Full Text PDF of this Article]
