This is a compact textbook totaling less than 150 pages divided into six chapters. Much effort must have gone into achieving this publication in such a condensed manner. In the preface, the author claims that this book is the product of a lifelong professional interest in the subject. The title is somewhat misleading as an attempt has been made to compile and summarize all of the information available on salivary gland abnormalities, rather than just their surgical treatment. For example, the author's preferred technique for parotidectomy is discussed in the first chapter, as well as an update of structure, function and biochemistry of salivary gland secretion, and anatomy of the different salivary glands. Succeeding chapters deal with the diagnostic workup, including roentgenographic investigation, and the role of fine-needle aspiration cytology.
