Essential Otolaryngology: Head and Neck Surgery is the only book of its kind. Originally conceived as a fact book for board review, it has also become a quick-reference source and study guide for the otolaryngology resident.
The third edition has been expanded and updated. Thirty-five contributors have written 39 chapters that comprises 1,133 pages. The first 25 chapters discuss topics concerning the head and neck, eg, the anatomy of the ear, salivary glands, and radiology. The final 15 chapters deal with a variety of topics, including related disciplines and care of the surgical patient. Titles typical of these chapters include "Immunology," "The Chest," and "Surgical Hemostasis." The book ends with a 217-question, multiple-choice quiz.
Chapter formats vary widely. Most chapters are expanded outlines. Some cover their subjects in a narrative fashion. A few serve as little more than glossaries of syndromes, eponyms, and miscellaneous information. Most chapters are consisely
