PATHOLOGIC QUIZ CASE 1

A 31-year-old white man was seen for complaints of having malaise, fatigability, dyspnea during exertion, fever, and numerous purple lesions on the oral mucosa. These lesions had developed on his hard palate three weeks prior to examination and had more recently occurred on the left buccal mucosa, the intranasal mucosa, and the skin of the left ear. The lesions were not tender and had not changed since developing. The patient's health had been generally good, except for an acquired L-4 radiculopathy, nonspecific urethritis, and an unknown type of hepatitis.

Physical examination disclosed numerous raised, purple papules, ranging in size from 3 x 3 mm to 5 x 5 mm.
