Research Career Development for Young Faculty

In preparing this topic of research careers for young faculty, I was concerned about the proper perspective and wondered about our potential pool of young academicians. I was relieved on both points by comments made by my minister (Timothy H. Glenham, Sermon Ausburgh Lutheran Church, Winston-Salem, NC, March 21, 1982), during a recent sermon.

It seems that a young coed's parents received the following letter from their daughter, who apologized for the delay in communication.

Dear Folks:

Sorry for the delay, but there have been some problems. The dormitory recently caught fire and my eyes were burned; however, my vision is now returning. Through all of this, I have been generously helped by a friend who let me move into his apartment for my recuperation. I know you'll like him; he comes from a fine family.
