This manual was written and published by the Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation and is intended for course directors (instructors) and occupational hearing conservationists (technicians).
It follows and expands the Guide for the Training of Industrial Audiometric Technicians, which was developed by the original Intersociety Committee in 1966. The 11 chapters include such topics as hearing conservation in noise; anatomy and physiology of the human ear; causes and types of hearing loss; physics of sound; federal and state noise regulations; audiometric techniques; the audiogram; principles of noise analysis; the hearing conservationist in the industrial setting; personal hearing protection; and record keeping. Many charts, graphs, and reprints are included. It is provided in loose-leaf form. Some material is already obsolete.
The intent of the manual is to obtain some standardization by the many groups conducting training programs for occupational hearing conservationists. It is perhaps unfortunate that there is
