This is the current definitive textbook on laryngeal microsurgery. It is appropriate that Dr Kleinsasser has written it since he pioneered the development of laryngoscopes that permit visualization of the vocal cords in three dimensions and the operating microscope used so widely in ear, eye, gynecologic, neurologic, vascular, and other surgery. The range of lesions is broad, the treatment advised is appropriate, and the photography is superb.

In the next edition, it might be helpful to discuss the use of distal fiberoptic illumination for both examination and photography. It has been my experience that it is much better to avoid the microscope light with its reflected glare.
