In Reply.—At no place in our article on laryngeal electromyography did we recommend this examination for all patients with unilateral vocal cord paralysis. We did state that improvements in equipment could make it "routine" in the diagnosis of vocal cord disorders. Obviously, cases where diagnosis is not a question or in the terminal patient with aspiration, electromyographic examinations would be purely academic. The patient we cited in the article did not undergo a laryngeal electromyographic examination.
