To the Editor.—In their article in the December ARCHIVES (105:719-720, 1979), "Is the Lacrimal Apparatus Injured Following Cosmetic Rhinoplasty," Lavine et al describe the lacrimal bone as consisting of "the lacrimal fossa, which houses the lacrimal sac, the posterior lacrimal crest, and the anterior lacrimal crest." They also state, "The anterior crest is formed by the junction of the lacrimal bones and the frontal process of the maxilla."

This statement is erroneous and confusing. It is an anatomical fact that the anterior lacrimal crest belongs exclusively to the frontal process of the maxillae, and this process contributes a smaller part of the lacrimal fossa, the greater part being provided by the lacrimal bone. . . .
