This book was intended for a broad audience of speech pathologists, physicians, dentists, psychologists, and social workers. The book contains a discussion of the vast majority of communicative disorders that occur in children and adults. The author's approach to them is to relate the communicative symptomatology with the underlying organic and psychiatric conditions that cause them. In this respect, the book is an excellent one for medical specialists as well as those in allied fields.

The book begins with a discussion of the normal sensory and motor systems, with special emphasis on how they relate to normal speech production. Disorders of speech and language are couched in terms of these sensory and motor systems. Most of the communicative disorders are discussed in terms of their background, diagnosis, prognosis, and therapy.
