Several individuals questioned the interpretation of metastatic glomus tumor in the case report in the ARCHIVES (102:507-510,1976). Through the courtesy of the authors, I obtained the original tissue sections and submitted them to Dr Walter C. Bauer, professor of surgical pathology, Washington University Medical Center. They were also reviewed by Dr James S. Nelson, neuropathologist, Washington University Medical Center. Their interpretation is as follows:

Sections show a malignant neoplasm composed of cells which have some cytologic variability but which seem to be a single population. The cells tend to be located around vessels with a somewhat alveolar arrangement in some areas. Sections of cerebral cortex and of spinal cord show tumor cells in the leptomeninges, and there is one focus of invasion into the cortex. We do not think this tumor has the characteristic pattern of a chemodectoma, although the described location of the apparent primary neoplasm is consistent with . . .
