This book was written to provide a comprehensive review of the biophysics and physiology of the auditory periphery. The Auditory Periphery is the auditory receptor up to but not including the cochlear nerve. Until the publication of this work, those interested in this area had to rely on a number of journal articles and older books in order to put together a comprehensive understanding of the middle ear and cochlear function. There was no one up-to-date source dealing with the subject. Dr. Dallos' book has filled this void. This text may be viewed as a sequel to Physiological Acoustics by Weaver and Lawrence and Experiments in Hearing by von Békèsy.
