Doctor Potter's main aim in writing this book is to describe the gradually evolving appearance of the structures of the head from one millimeter to the next in the three cardinal directions and an oblique direction. His atlas has been well designed with the first four chapters illustrating the serial sectional anatomy of the above four planes. His sections have been taken one millimeter apart rather than one centimeter apart, as in most previous references on this subject. The complete atlas includes 467 illustrations.

The presentation of an individual section is made on facing pages to enable the reader to see all the information on a section in one view, avoiding unnecessary back-and-forth leafing.
