This book is a general overview of the various dental abnormalities that influence facial appearance and their treatment. All of its nine contributors, with the exception of an anesthesiologist, are dentists, a fact that points out not only the contributions that dentistry has made to this important and complex subject, but also the inroads that some dental oral surgeons have made into the surgical management of these cases. It soon becomes obvious, however, that the main and most important contributors are the orthodontists and the prosthodontists.

There are good sections on facial photography, radiography, and cephalometrics. There is an interesting chapter on facial analysis and a very informative section on orthodontic techniques. Growth and maturation are also discussed.

The review of the evolution of the surgery for congenital jaw deformities is interesting and adequately illustrated. However, the chapter on the surgical correction of various deformities is presented like a catalog . . . [Full Text PDF of this Article]
