The treatment of the more common acute otolaryngologic disorders is presented in concise and uncomplicated language that should be of value to the medical student, young emergency room intern, resident, and family practitioner. The text is divided into sections according to regional areas and organ systems with specific chapters devoted to such special problems of airway obstruction, facial paralysis, foreign bodies, corrosive ingestion, and trauma.

Several sections are of particular value. In the section on the acute disorders of the nose and sinuses, practical and useful guidelines are given to the inexperienced physician in the techniques of physical examination, the management of nasal foreign bodies, epistaxis, and the treatment of acute infections of the nose and sinuses. The differential diagnosis of facial pain is often an infrequent area of discussion, and the handbook presents a concise and systematic discussion.
