Arch Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg. 1999;125:725.

The article "Otorhinolaryngologic Computer-Assisted Biopsies of the Iceman" by Andreas R. Gunkel et al¹ published in the March 1997 issue of the ARCHIVES (1997;123:253-256) is virtually identical to another article by 3 of the same authors² published in Acta Oto-Laryngologica (Oslo) in March 1997.

In December 1998, the authors had sent a signed statement of authorship responsibility stating that the manuscript had not been published and was not under consideration for publication elsewhere. They also signed a document that transferred all copyright ownership to the publisher. Well before either publication, the authors received a letter of acceptance from the ARCHIVES reminding them of our policy on duplicate publication.
