Diagnosis: Apocrine mixed tumor of the skin
As a skin tumor, chondroid syringoma, or apocrine mixed tumor of the skin, is histologically identical to pleomorphic adenoma located in the salivary glands.1-2 While apocrine mixed tumor of the skin is rare, it can be found in various sites in the head and neck region, such as the external auditory canal, nose, lips, and eyelids. However, only a few cases of mixed tumor in the auricular skin have been reported in the English-language literature.3-5
Salivary gland tumors represent about 3% of all head and neck neoplasms. Approximately 80% are located in the parotid gland and 10% in the submandibular gland, with the remainder being distributed between the sublingual gland and the countless minor salivary glands.
