Diagnosis: Teflon granuloma
Despite the introduction of laryngeal framework surgery for the treatment of unilateral vocal cord paralysis, Teflon injection is still advocated in certain medical centers in view of the simplicity of the procedure.1-2 Although the frequency of its use has declined recently, we still encounter patients with problems related to Teflon injection years after undergoing the procedure.
Polytef, or polytetrafluoroethylene, was first discovered in 1938 as a strong, bonded, inert polymer.3 In 1962, Arnold4 introduced the injection of Teflon paste as a space-occupying substance for the medialization of a paralyzed vocal cord fixed in the lateral position.
