Correct Carboplatin Dose?

Since this article does not have an abstract, we have provided the first 106 words of the full text and any section headings.

A physician in our area has asked me about the dose of carboplatin specified in "Concomitant Chemoradiotherapy in Pyriform Sinus Carcinoma" by Prades et al.1 For patients treated under protocol 1, the dose is listed as "carboplatin with an area under the curve (AUC) of 5 mg/mL per 1 minute per day on days 1 through 5 and on days 28 through 33. The AUC dose was calculated using the Calvert formula."1(p385) This is equal to an AUC of 25 per week, a dose of carboplatin appropriate for bone marrow transplantation. I would have expected each patient to need stem cell support. Is this dose correct?
