For some time I've wondered whether there exists in our literature a
design for an international "rhinogram" that might address the issues of the
nose in the same way that the audiogram addresses issues of the ears. It seems
that a simple graphic chart representing the highlights of nasal function
in an anatomic-physiologic manner (Figure
1) would provide patients and their physicians with meaningful information
about the nose that would aid in treatment.

Toward this end I presented this information at a meeting of the International
Rhinologic Society and American Rhinologic Society, Mayo Clinic, under the
title "The Nose: 2000 . . . and Beyond," in Washington, DC, between September
