While the endoscopic browlift is a very recent surgical procedure, having
first been described in 1984 and taught to US surgeons only since 1991, it
has quickly become the most commonly used method of surgical rejuvenation
of the upper third of the face. This fact demonstrates the superiority of
the procedure compared with more traditional open forms of surgical browlifting.
Dr Koch's review of the endoscopic technique, both pro and con, clearly elucidates
how such a change in practice has
occurred.

In my practice, endoscopic browlifts have been performed since 1993;
over a 2-year period they became the procedure of choice for surgical rejuvenation
of the upper third of the face. With rare exceptions, open browlifting using
a pretrichial or trichophytic incision is reserved for patients with high
foreheads, deep frontalis wrinkles, and definitive or thick anterior hairlines.
