Five-year Compliance With a Nostril Dilator

In the December 1996 issue of the ARCHIVES, we published a 6-month follow-up study describing the benefits of improved nasal breathing during sleep.1 Because physicians have since asked us about the 5-year compliance with the nostril dilator (Nozovent; Prevancure Ltd, V Frölunda, Sweden) that was used in our study, we provide the following summation.

Design

All 25 male subjects who used the device for 6 months were sent a personal letter asking whether they had continued to use the device during the last 5 years, whether they had received other treatment for their snoring problems, and whether any treatment had decreased their snoring. Their sleeping partners were asked to rate their average snoring on the visual analog scale (0 [no snoring] to 100 [continuous snoring]) that was used in the follow-up study.
