The 40th Annual Meeting of the American Society for Head and Neck Surgery was held May 14-16, 1998, in conjunction with the Society of Head and Neck Surgeons during the Combined Otolaryngologic Spring Meeting in Palm Beach, Fla. Both societies voted to merge into 1 society named the American Head and Neck Society. At the business meeting of the American Society for Head and Neck Surgery, under the leadership of Dale H. Rice, MD, 16 new active fellows, 12 corresponding fellows, and 4 candidate fellows were introduced.
The scientific program included 40 oral presentations and 35 posters. Dr Rice delivered the American Society for Head and Neck Surgery Presidential Address, titled "Can the Wounds Be Healed?"
