Staphylococcal Endocarditis Following Septorhinoplasty
Donald L. Coursey, MD
Arch Otolaryngol. 1974;99(6):454-455.
Abstract
Guidelines for the use of prophylactic antibiotics in intranasal surgery are not well established. Although antibiotics are recommended to protect endocarditis-susceptible individuals before dental and oral surgical procedures, little emphasis is placed on preoperative antibiotic coverage for patients undergoing otolaryngological procedures. Staphylococcus aureus endocarditis followed a septorhinoplasty. Prophylactic antibiotic coverage is needed in intranasal surgery.
