The Fate of Gelatin Film in the Middle Ear
Franklin Holzer, MD
Arch Otolaryngol. 1973;98(5):319-321.
Abstract
A series of guinea pigs was used to evaluate the effect and fate of gelatin film when introduced into the middle ear. After 45 days, no residue of gelatin film or granulation tissue was found, fibrosis was minimal, and the lining mucosa appeared intact and normal. A series of patients who received gelatin film implants during tympanoplasty was reviewed, and the findings suggest that gelatin film is a suitable material for middle ear implant.
