Sequential Analysis to Limit the Number of Cases

Abstract
Sequential analysis of a limited number of cases was used to evaluate the results of intratubal strontium 90 treatment of Eustachian tubes. Six children with recurrent serous otitis media and/or atelectasis of the tympanic airspace causing conductive hearing loss were studied. They had had tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy, revision adenoidectomy and myringotomy, and myringotomy and plastic tube insertion through their eardrums.

Allergy treatment had been unsuccessful for an average period of 19 months in these patients. Intratubal strontium 90 treatment was found to be unsuccessful in five out of the six children. Therefore, evidence is against the use of strontium 90.
