Abstract
Granuloma inguinale is an infectious granulomatous disease usually involving the anogenital area. Bone involvement and extragenital lesions each occur in six percent of reported cases. The bone disease should be regarded as osteomyelitis. A case of granuloma inguinale involving the bony orbit and eyelids illustrates the method of diagnosis. This disease should be considered in the differential diagnosis when confronted with a maroon, velvet-like, fungating granulomatous lesion of the head or neck. Demonstration of Donovan bodies is necessary for diagnosis of granuloma inguinale. Treatment is with streptomycin sulfate or long-term tetracycline therapy.
