Abstract
Fifty outpatients with an acute attack of diffuse or circumscript external otitis were used in a double-blind, randomized, noncrossover trial to evaluate the rapidity of onset of the anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect of a 200-mg daily dose of indomethacin suppositories against placebo in the treatment of pain, tenderness, and edema. Indomethacin showed statistically significant better symptoms scores than placebo for tenderness and spontaneous pain. Time of onset was statistically significantly less in the indomethacin group and both the patient and physician evaluations showed significant preference for indomethacin over placebo.
