Laryngeal Trauma

Fred T. Shaia, MD; Charles L. Cassady, MD

Arch Otolaryngol. 1972;95(2):104-108.

Abstract

Laryngeal trauma is best treated by a solid stent composed of a foam rubber core and a finger cot lining. The advantage of this stent is that it is easily constructed and readily available. If the trauma is associated with loss of laryngeal cartilage support and soft tissue, a skin-lined stent is preferred. If a stenosis develops, a temporary skin-lined fistula may be created to interrupt the cicatricial process.
