Abstract
From 1954 through 1968, 108 cases of invasive carcinoma of the floor of the mouth were treated. Primary tumor only occurred in 50% and 46.3% had regional node involvement. At least 70% of those with localized disease were salvaged, and comparable results were obtained by irradiation and surgery in patients with lesions measuring 2 cm or less. Treatment was successful in only 25% of cases with regional nodes. Preoperative irradiation had no significant effect. No patients with either bilateral or fixed cervical node involvement were salvaged.
