Nasopharyngeal Tuberculosis

Iain W. S. Mair, MD, ChB, FRCSG; Thor A. Johannessen, MD

Arch Otolaryngol. 1970;92(4):392-393.

Abstract

Nasal obstruction, postnasal discharge, and a unilateral serous otitis media in the adult are frequently early signs of a nasopharyngeal neoplasm. An isolated tuberculous infection of the nasopharynx may produce a similar symptom complex. A profound hearing loss can occur in the absence of bacterial involvement of the middleear structures. Specific treatment can produce complete recovery and a normal audiogram.
