Abstract
The first patient in the literature to survive with a deep nonclostridial gas-forming neck phlegmon is described. Early x-ray identification of gas formation as well as aerobic and anaerobic cultures are necessary for adequate therapy consisting in external neck drainage, followed up by chemotherapy, and if necessary hyperbaric oxygen treatment.
