Mastoid Obliteration Using Homograft Bone

Preliminary Report

M. Coyle Shea, Jr., MD; Gale Gardner, Jr., MD

Arch Otolaryngol. 1970;92(4):358-365.

Abstract

The ideal solution for the problem of chronically infected radical mastoid cavity should include restoration of the external ear canal and middle ear structures to their normal state. The use of homogenous cancellous bone chips for cavity obliteration, combined with the technique of vein graft tympanoplasty, has produced promising early results in a series of 13 cases.
