Concept of Mechanical Assist in Esophageal Speech

Herbert Klinger, PhD

Arch Otolaryngol. 1970;92(3):244-247.

Abstract

There is evidence, spanning a period of about 40 years, that indicates the possible existence of an assist which may help to open the pharyngeal-esophageal segment during the air intake among alaryngeal speakers. This assist may occur either through a direct pull on the mouth of the segment, by itself, or in conjunction with other factors. The evidence seems to warrant direct research into this area.
