Abstract
The use of pulsed ultrasound to monitor lateral pharyngeal wall motion in esophageal speakers has been shown to yield data on the latency period between onset of injection and onset of phonation, and on several other interesting injection phenomena. This technique permits the study of the static, dynamic, and temporal aspects of the lateral pharyngeal wall displacement during the production of esophageal speech.
