Central Electronystagmographic Abnormalities

Alfred C. Coats, MD

Arch Otolaryngol. 1970;92(1):43-53.

Abstract

Central spontaneous nystagmus, gaze nystagmus, failure of fixation-suppression of caloric nystagmus, optokinetic asymmetry, and disconjugate oculomotor abnormalities were surveyed in a population of 2,091 consecutive patients referred for electronystagmographic testing. These findings provide valid indications of lesions of the central nervous system, provided durg effects, and peripheral ocular abnormalities are ruled out.
