Abstract
The results of 170 otoplasties done from 1965 to 1968 using both mattress-suture (74%) and cartilage-cutting techniques (26%) were analyzed separately and together in regard to complications, unsatisfactory cosmetic results, and revision rate. The complication rate was 7.1% in the mattress-suture group and 11.4% in the cartilage-cutting group with a revision rate of 2.4% and 2.3% respectively. The percentage of unsatisfactory cosmetic results, unrelated to complications was 6.4% with the mattress-suture technique and 13.6% with cartilage-cutting techniques. Final results, including revisions, were good in 166 of 170 ears (97.6%).
