Decompression of the Facial Nerve in Melkersson Syndrome

Abstract
The treatment of Melkersson syndrome has remained controversial. A patient with bilateral recurring paralysis responded to surgical decompression of the facial nerve. It is our opinion that early surgical intervention in cases of nerve degeneration is warranted. Also, consideration should be given to prophylactic decompression of the nerve in patients with repeated episodes of facial paralysis.
