Abstract
Gunshot wounds to the infratemporal space have been described infrequently. In a series of 12 such injuries, two patients required exploration for vascular or visceral injuries.

No unexplored patient developed serious sequellae. The incidence of subsequent trismus was 50%. This series would suggest that the general rule of obligatory neck exploration for penetrating wounds may not apply to this injury.
