Abstract
Everted closure of the defect left after laryngectomy with partial pharyngectomy would be advantageous for preservation of the largest possible lumen, and provide for greater ease of performance and strength of closure, as compared with presently employed inverting techniques. Eight of nine experimental animals exhibited prompt healing of pharyngeal defects after total laryngectomy closed by a running, everted suture. Histologic and gross examination of the closures confirmed good healing.
